Biography
​Dr. Deshaies is a Full Professor in the Deparment of Medicine and Adjunct Director of the Obesity/Metabolism Research Component of the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute Research Centre, Faculty of Medicine, Laval University.

​The principal research interests of Dr. Deshaies are centered on adipose tissue, lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. More specifically his research focuses on adipose tissue metabolism in obesity/insulin resistance, triglyceride-rich lipoprotein metabolism in pro-inflammatory settings, mechanisms of action of PPAR agonists on lipid metabolism, and the involvement of insulin, glucocorticoids, catecholamines, and cytokines in obesity-related alterations of lipid metabolism.

​Dr. Deshaies has published extensively (career total of 147 peer-reviewed articles in highly-regarded scientific journals. His research has been funded for many years to this day by highly competitive national granting agencies. He is highly active as a reviewer for major granting agencies and scientific journals. His work as a scientist and mentor has been recognized by several local, provincial and national awards.

​Dr. Deshaies has acted as a consultant for major pharmaceutical companies, both for academic training of personnel and as a participant in research projects on novel compounds with therapeutic potential.
